The future of heart surgery has slowed down considerably since the early 2000's. It is probable that in the next few years the focus will change to making procedures more efficient and less invasive in order to decrease recovery time and increase success rate. Cardiology seems to be expanding to the technological side where smaller instruments are being made for maximum precision during operations. The focus right now is turning to minimally invasive procedure such as video-assisted thoracic surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, endobronchial ultrasound, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. One of the main focal points for the future is getting heart disease out of the list for primary causes of death of people.
