Partial Left Ventriculectomy for Dilated Cardiomyopathy Dr. Randas Batista, a Brazilian surgeon developed the partial left ventriculectomy procedure for patients with dilated cardiomyopathy ( oversized hearts). This became a procedure used to treat heart failure after the diseased heart swelled up impacting the function of the left ventricle and preventing it from pumping enough blood out into the rest of the body. This procedure is still in it's experimental stages and thus not widely used today as it is a high risk operation. The surgery involves taking out a rather large piece from the left ventricle and later attaching what is left of the ventricle back to the other chambers. There is not much information to this day on this operation.
